I'VE BOOKED MY FIRST CLASS, NOW WHAT?
I HAVE A MAJOR INJURY AND CAN'T DO (OBLIQUES, LEFT LEG ETC) CAN I STILL TAKE CLASS?
No. We recommend sitting out of Megaformer classes until you are in better health. Our workout is very intense and we want you to get the most out of these 50 minutes. This workout is the next level of fitness and we want you to feel like you get the most out of class. Also if you sit out an entire part of class it can be a distraction to others around you in our small class setting.
I'M TOTALLY OUT OF SHAPE, WILL I BE ABLE TO DO THE CLASS?
Probably. Our classes are definitely quite challenging, but there are modifications to decrease the intensity of almost every exercise. Your instructor will show you how to level-down during class if necessary. If you can hold a plank for 45 seconds, you'll do fine. In fact, we think no other activity will help you get back into shape faster or with less chance of injury.
I'M REALLY FIT, IS THIS WORKOUT FOR ME?
YES. Our clients run ultra-marathons, cycle hundreds of miles per week, rock climb at world-class levels, dance professionally, and do just about every other athletic pursuit under the sun. You'll work your slow-twitch muscles to failure and be left shaking and utterly spent at the end of class. If you apply yourself fully, this can be one of the hardest workouts you will ever do.
SHOULD I ATTEND A PRIVATE SESSION OR FUNDAMENTALS CLASS FIRST?
If you are out of shape or uncertain of your abilities, it's highly recommended that you take the Fundamentals Class offered several times per week. This class provides a slower-paced, more systematic overview of the method.
However, if your fitness foundation is solid, the best way to learn is to dive in and take a regular class. Your instructor will give you a tour of the machine before class starts and will also discuss any potential physical limitations you might have. Modifications are possible for almost every exercise. Our classes have no more than ten people, so you'll receive a lot of personal attention during your workout.
If you have a severe medical condition, chronic back pain, or painful joints, we recommend that you take a private session first so that we can assess your abilities and fitness level. Many of our clients testify that our classes have helped with their low back and joint pain tremendously. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll work with you to figure out the best plan.
IS THIS PILATES?
There are similarities, but the philosophy, machines, and techniques are quite different. We follow the method and use the Megaformer™ machine created by Sebastien Lagree. There are a couple hundred Lagree Fitness™ studios around the world. Our workout provides 50 minutes of sustained intensity that traditional Pilates just can't match. But like Pilates, our workout is therapeutic and great for injury prevention.
WILL I GET A CARDIO WORKOUT?
Your heart rate will go up, but this is not primarily a cardio workout. You'll burn, shake, and sweat, and your muscles will be pushed to failure, but you likely won't be at your cardiovascular limit. Our clients often supplement their Megaformer workouts with running, cycling, and/or hiking for full fitness.
WHAT IS THE BEST CLASS TO START WITH?
Sculpt Level 1. This class is your chance to learn the foundational Megaformer™ moves and stay completely on the front of the machine. Beginners and those who want a tough class with our basic moves can benefit from this class. While the exercises performed in this class are basic, you'll still get an amazing workout.
CAN I ATTEND CLASS IF I'M PREGNANT?
We do not advise starting our classes if you are pregnant. However, clients who have been regularly attending classes may continue working out with us until about four months into the pregnancy. This workout compresses the abdomen and works the core in ways that produce great results but might not be optimal for pregnant women. Please contact us and/or your care provider if you have any questions.
Postpartum women should wait 4-6 months before resuming classes. Once you're ready to return to class, there is no better workout to help your core and pelvis return to your pre-pregnancy state.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TAKE CLASS?
For the best results, you should come at least twice per week but no more than 3-4 times per week. We work your muscles to failure, so you need at least a day of rest after each class. People who have been coming for years still get sore every time. Some of our clients do come almost every day, but that's not something we recommend. Just listen to your body and you'll be fine!
WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
You can change or cancel your class up to 2 hours before the class starts. If you cancel within 2 hours of the start time, you will lose the class. We can't give any refunds for any classes that you miss. If you have an unlimited package and you late-cancel or no-show for class, you will be charged a $15 fee.
WILL MY SPOT BE GIVEN AWAY IF I'M LATE?
Yes. Always arrive a few minutes early. If you do not get here before class starts, your space may be given to someone who is waiting. If it's your first time, make sure you arrive at least 10 minutes before class starts.
IS THERE A WAIT LIST FOR FULL CLASSES?
Yes. If a class says "10 Reserved, 0 Open," click "Sign Up" and then choose the wait list option. This will put you in line if someone cancels.
DO YOU HAVE SHOWERS?
Sorry, we don't have showers, but we do have bathrooms where you can change your clothes.
